Nail & Tag

Nail and tag is referring to objects used to identify witnesses to a section corner monument. Section corners are important to the location of many properties. So to ensure these monuments are always recoverable, surveyors will record measurements from that section corner monument to nearby objects like power poles, trees, fence corner posts, etc. These objects are called witnesses. Nails and tags are sometimes used to mark them and show the precise point at which a measurement was taken.
