LiDAR

Lidar is a relatively new surveying technique used to remotely scan various things such as: the ground surface, buildings, power lines, etc. It produces a dense point cloud that can be used to generate ground elevation contours and 3d models of buildings. This data is then used by engineers and architects for the design of various projects. Lidar scanners can be carried on drones, backpacks, truck racks, etc. Simply put, it is a way to measure things without physically touching it or going to it.
